A U.S.-Russian forum on cooperation in various spheres, including the oil sector, opens Tuesday to address pressing issues in current bilateral relations, the president of the American University in Moscow told the RIA Novosti news agency.

Relations between the two countries have been strained in recent weeks and deteriorated considerably after U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney’s speech in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, May 4. He accused the Russian government of “unfairly” restricting citizens’ rights and of using gas and oil supplies as “tools of intimidation and blackmail”. A few days later Russian President Vladimir Putin hit back at what he called U.S. double standards during his state-of-the-nation address.

The World Russian Forum 2006 will bring together prominent Russian and American political experts, businessmen and public figures in the American capital for three days under the slogan “Towards Economic, Political and Military Alliance,” said Edward Lozansky, who has organized the forum since the early 1980s.

Congressman Curt Weldon will deliver a keynote address to open a political discussion on the future of U.S.-Russian relations. On May 18, participants will hold a series of panel discussions on cooperation in the sphere of culture, education and sciences.

    Господа американцы. В 1991 я стоял защитником Белого дома в Москве. И всей душой думал что США являются моими защитниками. Но сегодня я стал думать по-другому. Я не голосовал за Путина и Медведева, но я также не стал бы голосовать за Буша и Маккейна. Деньги не являются главным в этой жизни. Не сильно верьте своим политикам. Они врут что у нас, что у вас.

    Let's go to fight with misinformation about Russia! All USA and west mass media write incorrect information about Russia. The georgian government develops plausible statements, write down that on the chamber and transfer to mass media. Now it plans to create new cinema with the Georgian corpses. Corpses have collected from all vicinities, have in addition spoilt and wish to attribute all to the Russian excesses.

Showing bombardments also say, that it is done by Russia. And actually it shoots the Georgian army. Everyone can check up it. Regain consciousness look, you simply deceive. As it is not a shame to you to deceive the people, yes to you who lets out and does these so-called news. It is necessary to submit the claim on these companies on behalf of Russia, for impudent lies and deception of spectators of these channels. And also for slander on the Russian army and peacemakers.
