It might be a mistake in translation, but if a planet does not rotate around its axis it doesn't mean that half of it is always dark; on the contrary - it means that each side of the planet is lighted for 1/4 of an year! Only if a planet's revolution coincides with its rotation does half of it stay continously dark - like the moon, for example.
