Hello,

I am new to this forum.

I was diagnosed anemia in my childhood and during our visit to Russia a doctor recommended this mysterious chocolate bar called Gematogen [Гематоген]. I can't express how much we loved it. Years passed.. Nowadays I crave for it just like I did in my childhood, however, after reading the ingredient list I was turned off to see some derived from human or animal blood. It is red line for me. I prefer organic food with non-animalic ingredients except for the milk, eggs and honey.

My question is this: Is there any chocolate or food bar here in US that resemble the taste of Gematogen or even comes close to it?

Thank you Smile

I am a new...

How can you be sure that food labeled organic really is organic ?
In order to put the word organic on a food label, the grower or producer must get the product certified as organic by a USDA-accredited certifier.
Did you see such label ????

Let me make one thing clear. I am not looking for Gematogen [Гематоген], but an alternative as per its taste goes. My dad is rich, he can manage to import bulk order if I wanted to but I want an organic alternative with pure natural ingredients. By the way, I can read and talk Russian but it is very difficult for me to write in Russian. Sorry.

Laura,

"Gematogen" - doesn't it sound similar to "hemoglobin"?

For a good reason: the main ingredient of this snack is red blood cells (hemo is latin for blood).

You like blood. Admit it, then enjoy it.

Have you tried Irish black pudding?
It's made with blood, and it's delicious!

Maybe, but I despise the idea. No I can't consume anything bloody. Just like сгущёнка has an alternative in here in US [condensed milk] so too Gematogen should have an organic natural alternative.

I guess it's the taste of blood you like, so the answer is probably 'no'. You'll just have to pick between 1) putting tasty crap in your mouth and 2) not putting it in your mouth. Life sucks sometimes, what can you do.

P.S. Seems like you're a vegetarian, this isn't very good. You'll damage your health, please give it a thought

also, hematogen does not contain blood.
thats silly and preposterous to say that hematogen
contains blood. it contains albumine.

I am not anemic anymore and I am not a vegetarian. I love chicken, sheep and cow meat when processed properly. Ref. to Food Inc.

If so, let me begin with a question:

Now we are getting somewhere. The partial answer is actually in your attention on my first post where I said we've been in Russia may years ago. As for the spelling goes, I just found them on Wiki, of course with the help of google [i.e searching words "gematogen" and "sweetened milk in russian"].

It is equivalent to say: anything that has H2 [Hydrogen] in it will give the taste of H2O. It isn't the albumin that makes entire taste.
