Funny news - today's article in WSJ. If you have a bank account, stocks or some stuff in a bank safe,or undeposited checks, it may be gone before you know if you do not claim it for several years. or forgot to deposit stock dividents...
The most ****edup state for that is Delaware, they took $365mln other's money last year. States even take people's jewerely from bank safes and sell it on ebay!
in some states, if you have a biznes and wrote checks to somebody, but they were not cashed. after a while your're supposed handle these money to the state! they can come after you and audit after 20 years and make you pay unclaimed money.
originally those laws were designed to find owners of the forgotten property and return it to the owners, but now states often find unclaimed property, but do not really bother looking for the owners
