It's almost time to break out the boards and wax them. Loon Mtn has said it will open Wed. Who knows if it will? But it looks like the Rockies might have a hard time getting open before Dec.

brad, awesome, just yesterday I was discussing where I'd want to ski this winter Smile

Never've been to Colorado.

So far on the top of my list:
1. Lake Tahoe, CA
2. Zermatt, Interlaken Switzerland
3. Mammoth Lakes, CA

I like to see water when I ski down Very happy Razz

jane asked "how much does it cost to ski there"

Sheriff, Choose #1 then. Tahoe is awesome.

Jane, 68 dollars a day for a lift ticket.

Plus Sheriff, You've got a choice of about 15 different ski areas to choose from.

Here's my second favorite ski area. It's about 15 miles North of where I live

But I would like to go to Whistler-Blackcomb.

I guess that one won't work because it's an interactive map.
Here's a different one

[edit]made images smaller. Brad, please don't post images larger than 200Kb, as almost nobody outside US can read them. You need to be on a high-speed line to be able to. Rather, if image is large post a link like I did here, and warn people about the size. Thanks. Sheriff[/edit]

Jane, which ski area? Cannon, or Loon? Loon is more for families. I'd say it has about 80% tame stuff. Really only about 5 black diamond trails. Although the trail map says more. But the tree skiing on the MTN. is real tight.

Cannon has about 80% expert stuff. The front 5 trails that face Echo Lake are very steep. In the Spring, when they do not do any grooming. They are double black diamonds. And the tree skiing is out of this World.

I only ski midweek, so I never run into the congestion of the families. So I can make Loon as interesting to ski as I want.

I've been here once. Even though it's kind of close to where I live. It still takes some planning to get to. But it's worth it. When you can ski the snowfields? You've done some skiing.

Sheriff, The Winter of 1991, 1992. I had a job here at Wildcat, Making snow. I hiked up and down that Mountain a 1000 times. Maybe more times than that. I forget.
Don't let the trail map deceive you. It's a huge Mountain! A lot of terrain that the map cannot show.
It's a mountain to ski at. No condos anywhere around it.

Today was my first day skiing. I'm tired, and my quads are burning. But what a day it was. We had a snowstorm of about 10 inches

Google gives me 7 hrs 11 minutes from my place to yours. Don't believe that, though, 'cause you got to go through New York City...last time I went to Boston it took 8 hrs, so under 10 hrs I can be there skiing. Same time could take me to ski in Colorady or California, by air. Not a weekend vacation. Frown Smile

Brad,

Please don't post images larger than 200-250Kb, as almost nobody outside U.S. can read them. You need to be on a high-speed line to be able to. When someone on a slow line tries to open this thread, his browser would just hang. Rather, if image is large post a link like I did here, and warn people about the size.

We have over 1MB of images here in this thread, imagine someone trying to download these on a 33Kb modem line Eek! Razz

Thanks
