Tostring and Brad, I agree and concur. I think the point, however, Sheriff was trying to make was that having an “average” income a “normal” size family would have a hard time making it ends meet and thus, nonexistence of an “American dream” for an “average American family.” Tostring, what you wrote is more pertinent to people with a drive to succeed, and at the least, increase their income in order to meet the demands or wants of their family.
I tend to think that US economy, as it is now, is more geared to people with constant strive to better themselves and not the ones who stay idle. I think this country is designed for “sharks” that must always be moving (hunting) in order to stay afloat, and as soon as the “shark” stops it goes down to the bottom…;-)) this is obviously not “good news” for people who are “satisfied” with what they have, because they might loose that too. (Example, IT market shifting to India). I do think, though, that opportunity is here for everyone. Just need to figure out what you want and where to go to get it.

yeah I guess that was the point by Sheriff. but what i can't get is what is "poor" and not poor. almost everybody is poor compared to B.gates &co. or almost everybody is rich compared to some haiti or something. so it has nothing to do with the amount of money you have. there are some people who are typical poor americans now, but they feel pretty rich after their poor life in their country. and i feel pretty poor if compared to some moscow friends

Brad, you are right. For me personally American beer is weak, that is all. As far as your investment that you had mentioned, that is a pretty good deal. I always figured that it is better to invest with US companies then Canadian ones. BTW, Sheriff mentioned taxes, you guys got it good. Every month they take 1800 out of my paycheck for taxes. I would rather have private medicine and less taxes then subsidized medicine and that much taxes.

it's not about beer weakness. if it's weak does not mean bad or good. some American beers can be not too bad sometimes. but most of those "kings of beers" such as budweiser(american not czech), bud ice, coors, michelobs, miller etc.. are really nasty piss. it does not even have beer taste or smell.
Tostring, maybe you meant that American beer is watery?
Local breweries can make good beer.

Actually, I didn't have my own point, except the one I made, that de facto if your family income is "american average", and you don't live in rural area but in proximity of a large city, then you don't have money left after expenses.
And I wanted to steer a good conversation too

Correctly, It should have been" also " . But , Too. Will work. You shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition.
All economies need to be sharks. You cannot stagnate. It is becoming a World economy. We need to make trade between Countries as easy as buying a crappy beer. Or buying the best product available.
Sheriff, i think it's a great posting. It gives me a chance to write something.
Will the American Dollar survive the World economy? Only time will tell. I think it will. I also think that people will migrate to this Country in droves. " Or Canada "
Tostring, I digress. America has some good beer. We are ever changing. Just as our Vineyards have changed, so will the American palate for better beer
But nothing is out of reach for a person with a goal. America is a great place to live. You just gotta be savvy

I tend to see US as a country with the largest credit card, NOT the richest country. Richest countries are places like Luxembourg, Switzerland, Norway. People all over the world still trust US dollar (even though the trust trend has been going down) and they buy us government bonds in effect providing a credit card to support failing US economy. Government is nearly $10 trillion in debt (mostly owned by China and other countries) plus 20+ trillion private debt. That's an equivalent of an everage family with their 46k a year income owing half a million dollars to their neighbors who own the local walmart where said average family buys all the stuff they can't affort.
The biggest problem here is not the inavitable bankrupcy and subsequent collapse of the US of A, the problem is that US is happilly going the way of the Soviet Union and liking it. (Some people prefere Roman empire analogy) Most folks don't notice it but it's just so obvious - failing economy, military expenses accounting for more and more GDP each year, endless costly military campaigns, no more constitutional rights, no more free independent media as they are taken over by one giant media conglamerate, friends around the world are bought and not made, similarities to Soviet system are scary.
20 years ago, who would have thought that price of oil will destroy Soviet Union and who can now concieve that price of cheap Chinese-made crap sold in Walmart will destroy United States.

I can only speak for myself. No credits cards, no T.V. Nothing that the rest of the World thinks that an American would automatically have. What would happen to the World if? Japan said, America, pay your debt to us. Or if Germany said? Pay your debt. Or if China said? Pay your debt. Total anarchy. America keeps the World afloat by making a debt. It's not called " Petro Rubles " It's called " Petro Dollars "

I'll say more. De facto if your family is double “American average”, and you live in Lexington Ave. in Manhattan, then you don’t have enough money for food.

Actually before the end of the year Russia will no longer sell oil and gas for US dollars, only rubles. Considering that Russia is the biggest gas producer and 2nd biggest oil producer that makes me rethink keeping my money is US dollars. Iran just stopped selling their gas/oil for dollars, they switched to japanese yen. Venezuela is naturally moving away from dollars as well, Bush pissed off Hugo Chavez one too many times. Europe is using euros to buy their fix. So who's left with petro dollars? Africa and certain middle eastern state currently controlled by a few hundred thousand guns pointed at their head. By the way, if you were to exchange all your dollars for rubles 5 years ago, you would have gained 28% on your investment, if you invested in euros you would have gained similar returns. So the old way of the allmighty US dollar is now over.
The way things are going, US economy will collapse before Bush leaves office.

Come on, America's dollar will not collapse. The World will not let it happen. That's typical old Soviet style propaganda. And besides, Bush has a year left in office. That bozo can't *uck things up that bad in such little time. He's had 7 years already. If he hasn't brought it down yet? It's not going to happen in his time left in office.
And we will move on to newer energy sources. Russia will be trying to sell oil in a non market.

Sure, I remember Nikita Khruzhev: “We’ll bury the capitalism!” Where is Khruzhev? Where is communism? But “Kremlin dreamers” are still dreaming about burial.

It has nothing to do with capitalism or communism, it's just pure economics. I don't want US economy to collapse, but it's US public who voted Bush in, twice. People get government they deserve, it was true with Hrushev and it's certainly true with Bush.
Of course it's hard to say what's going to happen in the future but given current state of affairs and unless drastic measures are taken, US of A is full ahead on a crash course to becoming a totalitarian state and going bankrupt, that's not propaganda, that's the sad truth.
During the cold war, I never saw the fight as a good guys vs bad guys, only small children and people who voted for Bush believe in such nonsense, it was two evil empires fighting for the title of the last evil empire remaining. US won...
P.S. Akakii, I know who you are talking about, but one thing I don't understand is who in the right state of mind would want to live in manhattan?

In the words of the Bulgarians. Glupost. I'm a Republican, but I'm not pro George Bush.
America will never go down. They're to many smart people that run this place called America.
If Countries go down? Look only to Eastern Europe. Why are all monies going to the Euro? That's where Countries collapse. Seraga, go to Canada. Spend your money so that lazy people reap the benefits of our hard work.
Then tell me about the great escape from American Capitalism.

Brad, I wish things were that simple. America has already gone down in every way with the only thing that's missing is economic collapse, but it's not far way. It gives me no pleasure to say these things and I really don't care what people think about me, but someone has to say it.
Free country you say? Let's see - Patriot Act took away 6 amendments all of which used to protect freedom. You are still protected from having to provide quarter to foreign soldiers, but you can be imprisoned, tortured and killed without trial or a jury should someone finger you as a terrorist, no proof needed by the way.
Media - all of the parent companies of every single news network in US donated money to Bush. GE owns NBC, they have benefitted greatly from disaster in Iraq, makes you wonder why they are still against troop pullout. I don't even need to bring up Halliburton which made 100s of millions for Cheney in return for a war they wanted.
Free elections - last 2 elections were rigged. CEO of Diebold, the company that makes voting machines openly said that his machines will deliver a victory for Bush, he also donated money to his campaign. Media was quiet about this by the way.
Democracy - no such thing, not in this country anyway. Can you vote to end Iraq war? No? You were lied to when they said you live in democracy. 6 years ago this was a Republic with oligarhs running it, now that's republic is dead thanks to Bush, it's just an oligarhy, next step - totalitarian state.
Economy? 30+ trillion in debt and counting...more debt than all of the rest of the world combined.
World peace maybe? US is number one weapon producer in the world and currently spends more on it's war machine than the rest of the world combined. US has 831 military bases around the world, with bases in middle east being the main reason why muslims hate america.
9/11? Inside job, they did the same thing nazis did to get Hitler the power he needed to start the war. False flag attacks are CIA's favorite operations, they've done them 100s of times, installing dictators who favor US companies all over the world is hard work. Did I mention that Rumsfield supplied Saddam Hussein with weapons?
