This is my favorite holiday. And not just because of the parades, or the fireworks, or the free party at the American Legion. Although all of those are fun. Or even though this is the first one I've had off from work in a long time.

For me it is a hard day. We are invited to tree BBQ parties. I have to watch how much I’m eating and drinking. And I don’t have a choice - tomorrow I’m fasting.

The year is 1907.....but the speaker knew what he was talking about.
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

O, well.. Happy Birthday USA. I'm glad, that you, USA, still stable (не уверен в правильности этого still stable), etc.

I don't think it matters as much anymore if you speak English, because the people that populated this Country in the 18th, and, 19th century didn't speak English either. They just made sure that their children would have a good life here. They took the crap jobs so that their children would have a better life. Where I live. The first person to start a paper mill was from Russia. He imported 300 Russians to chop trees down. Look it up. It's a fact. We used to have a Russian house in town. Where the Russians could go to meet, and drink, and talk. Because the other workers were French. Russian and French are not even in the same ballpark as far as languages go. Old man Balch Dovhulahk. He said he could speak Russian. But he also told me one day that his parents were from the Ukraine. That guy spent 30 years in the Army. But here's my point. He said that his parents made sure he could speak good English. So he would have a better life than his Dad had. But old man Balch still worked at the paper mill after he got out of the Army. So I think what I mean to say is. Don't expect everything to be Tea, and Roses. We all have to work for the betterment of our children. " even though I have none myself " America is tough, but it's also the land of opportunity. My Grandad was from Ireland. On the boat trip over to America, his parents died. He was put in an orphanage until he could fend for himself. Did he complain? NO! He went about his business, and did what it took to make a living.
That's all for now. I will talk about this subject later. Maybe under a different topic. But you guys will understand the thread

Касаемо того украинского old man.

Well, I have no idea what you just said. It's too much for me to read whole paragraphs in Russian. I tried. I think I have a headache now

Brad, when you open any forum and see a couple of dozen posts posted within ten minutes by one person; don’t even try to find any sense of these posts. It is typical Bandar-Log from The Jungle Book. Read Road-Song of the Bandar-Log and you see there is nothing to understand in their saying http://www.bibliomania.com/0/0/31/65/frameset.html Don’t waste your time reading their posts. I don’t. There are such people in any country, but in Russia they are majority, and in other countries they are minority. That is the main difference.

What did he say though? It made no sense, I tried to translate it. It sounded like mumbo, jumbo to me. My Russian isn't that good. But it's not that bad either. The fireworks were delayed this year by about an hour. I walked up to Lincoln, where they fire them off. Stood in the rain for an hour. Walked almost all the way home. Then, they started firing them off. So I turned around and walked back to Lincoln. Stood in the rain some more, and watched the fireworks. But it was worth it.
