If I may take a minute of your time. According to the F.B.I... The largest spammer ever, in the history of the INTERNET. Has been busted in Seattle Washington. HOORAY. Scum like that person should go to jail for the rest of thier lives. He has been accussed of taking your IP address, and using your computer for the purpose of spam. And only spam. 3 to 4 Billion emails have been sent from his company every day. That's days, Not months, or years. sheriff? If you could translate that for me? I would be in your debt. He has used every computer that has ever connected to a site that has had dealings with him. just wanted you folks to know

I'll translate.
I'd guess he built a network of computers he controls. Probably via Spyware/Trojan programs - these are the programs that get installed on your computer when you go to compromized websites using Internet Explorer, or download "free" version of Windows, games, etc. Once such program is on your computer, you may not even know it exists. It may be sitting there collecting your banking passwords (stealing money is big business), or like in his case, waiting for his command to send spam email messages from YOUR computer.
A good quality Spyware/Kernel/Trojan is VERY hard to detect and remove. Typically none of the common antivirus programs are capable of doing it. Most of what common antivirus programs do is make you think you are secure, waste your computer time, and detect 5-year old viruses written by kids noone cares about anymore.
As far as Hooray...I think there will be many more people at his place running their spam networks from islands, china, taiwan, singapore, russia, netherlands etc. where FBI will have no access. It is a very profitable business. The problem is in the way emails are created, and untill there's some sort of concensus about new email protocols, we will be flooded by spam.

I'm not saying we will ever get rid of spam entirely. or viruses. But it's a small step forward. The F.B.I does have far reaching fingers in other Countries pertaining to Internet Crime. Maybe not mainland China? But most certainly, the Netherlands, Germany, and yes, even Russia.
