(AP) - Baghdad has been liberated less than forty-eight hours, but Omar Muhammad has become that city's first billionaire. How did he do it?
"Chairs.", he says. When it became clear to most Iraqis that Saddam Hussein's regime had been deposed, the populace realized that they were now free to indulge in an activity long outlawed - chair collecting.
"Before Hussein, Iraq was the chair capital of the world. From office seating to benches to barstools - we had it all", Muhammad explained as he launched ChairBay (Iraq's first chair-based auction website). "I mean, come on - ottoman! It was all here baby"
Vice President Dick Cheney explained to reporters that "Those who assumed we fought this war over oil couldn't be more wrong. We fought this war for the chairs. As I speak, Halliburton has just won the government contract to supply all of North America with Iraqi-built chairs. As soon as we conquer Syria we'll have ample factory space to build so many beanbags that we'll easily close the 'comfort gap' with our European enemies."
Anti-war protestors considered changing their signs to read "No Blood for Sitting".
